Big Title Insurer Settles New York Attorney General 'No-Poach' Claims

In a recent development, a major title insurance company has reached a settlement agreement with the New York Attorney General regarding claims of "no-poach" agreements.

The settlement was reached between the Attorney General's office and the insurer, which had been accused of preventing employees from seeking employment with other title insurers. The Attorney General claimed that the company's actions were in violation of New York state antitrust laws.

Under the terms of the settlement, the insurer has agreed to pay a fine and to refrain from engaging in any further no-poach agreements with other title insurers. The settlement also requires the insurer to provide notice to its employees of the settlement and to include a provision in its employee contracts that prohibits no-poach agreements.

The Attorney General's office hailed the settlement as a victory for workers' rights and an important step in preventing anti-competitive practices in the title insurance industry.

"This settlement sends a strong message that no company is above the law when it comes to protecting workers' rights," said the Attorney General. "We will continue to vigorously enforce antitrust laws and hold companies accountable for their actions."

The insurer, for its part, expressed regret over the situation and affirmed its commitment to complying with all relevant laws and regulations.

"We are pleased to have reached a settlement with the Attorney General's office and to have put this matter behind us," said a spokesperson for the insurer. "We remain committed to providing our employees with a fair and supportive work environment and to complying with all applicable laws and regulations."

The settlement serves as a reminder that no-poach agreements, which prevent employees from seeking better job opportunities elsewhere, are illegal and can have serious consequences for companies that engage in them
